Make Money From Home – Yeah, Right!
As this site comes together I have increasingly delayed the dreaded first blog post. What can you say to start the ball rolling? While I’ve been doing this internet marketing stuff for a couple of years now I’ve only just got serious about blogging believe it or not! This blog will be about internet marketing promotion but I want it to be an honest blog with plenty of erstwhile commenters. So come on and join the fun!
As I was pondering this I came across a post from Chris Rempel who runs quite a well known blog called ‘The Lazy Marketer’. It’s an excellent blog and I do recommend it – anyway – Chris caused a bit of a stir with the post but I think the gist of it was spot on! And it seemed a very good place to start this blog – so thanks Chris! To quote his blog:
“This industry is particularly susceptible to hype, and mass belief, simply because much of the market is inexperienced, or at the beginning of the learning phase. It ís easy to get sucked into thinking that only ONE method works. Or that old methods are somehow less effective than new ones”.
Chris’s point here is that the internet marketing industry is particularly transient and fikle – by that I mean that with so many people coming into the industry or tinkering around the edges of it there’s a whole sub-industry out there exploiting it. The ‘Make Money From Home’ sub-niche is booming even in these times. You only have to be involved a short while to see that each and every month the next greatest thing that you can’t do without is on the market. Of course, this new thing is better and bigger than anything before it and it will ‘guarantee’ profits for you. ‘Guarantee’, along with ‘bonus’, is the most misused word in the internet marketing industry!
Anyway – I’m constantly amazed at how many ‘rags to riches’ stories there are – you know, the “18 year old college drop-out with no computer skills makes $543,231.24 in one week using “my system” rubbish.
As Chris goes on to say:
“What you have to realize is that – just like media – everyone has an agenda. Their own”.
Although we’ve all fallen for this – I certainly have many times – it’s important to keep a perspective and the next big thing is soon yesterdays news – and its probably not that big anyway – and it will only distract you from doing the basics – and it will make you poorer. ‘Make money from home easy’ is a falsehood.
Also, even if it is a big thing what someone else achieves with it will not necessarily be easily replicable for you. Just because there are glowing testimonials doesn’t mean it will work for you.
“Often times, the success of a given strategy is actually reliant on a specific industry – or an authoritative writing style – that a total newbie won’t be able to emulate just by doing the same thing” says Chris.
AND:
“Just because someone FAILED with something – it doesn’t mean that you wíll fail with that, either”.
I don’t have much time for writing in forums but it does amuse me to see many discussions on the pitfalls of various well known programs and services. Again, I don’t think too much attention should be paid to these and its important to stick to your own plan and make your own judgements about what you need. Chris categorises three types of people you often find on forums and in blog discussions about the latest products and services:
“1. Someone who raves about them – because they have an agenda
2. Someone who complains that it is all a scam! – because they’re beginners and they didn’t have traffic, conversion or both
3. Someone who does these things, recognizes that they obviously work – and keeps on doing them. Theyíll occasionally make comments on blogs, forums or directly to people in the industry.
The first 2 are very vocal – especially the beginners who (mistakenly) think that they’ve tried something, failed, and that their results should be taken as gospel truth. In reality, their results should be taken with a 900 lb grain of salt.
The 3rd type of marketer, above, is usually not very vocal simply because they don’t care, and because they’re too busy actually doing stuff to participate in forums, discussions, etc.”
I like to think I’m in the third category! Where do you think you fit? Most stuff in internet marketing is not a ’secret’ – it’s fairly straightforward in reality – particularly if you have a plan and stick to it. When I finally realised this I started getting results.
Unfortunately the hype of the next big thing can be very distracting but it really does not pay to chase the fast dollar or the $543,231.24 in one week – it ain’t gonna happen.
I’ll finish this rant with more wise words from Chris:
“It will come with time, but to accurately determine TRUTH in this industry, you’ve got to do two things:
1. Ignore information from marketers that are in line with an agenda (ie. pre-launch content)
2. Ignore the ‘Can’t-Do-It’, naysayers and whiners in general, because 99% of the time their results are anything but accurate or conclusive.”
Get back to your basics and start producing. It really ain’t that hard.

I’d like to add a #3 to this:
3) Stop reading really long blog posts(like this one!), and get to work. I was reading so long I fell asleep two thirds of the way through. No, Seriously, just get out there and do it! Take action!
I know, it sounds too easy, but it really is key.
I probably heard it 100 times before I understood it. I was so busy jumping from one thing to the next, trying to find that “next big thing” that would make me millions overnight, that I didn’t even have time to read any of the ebooks I paid for or do any of the stuff I was learning. It’s like an addiction, always wanting that next fix.
It wasn’t til I lost my internet connection during a storm a few months ago, that I realized how much I could accomplish by just ignoring my email and social sites for a few days.
Just like now, I’ve got a million things to do…
Don’t sabotage your own success or let the info overload do it either. – B)>

Ahhh, the pleasures of addiction.
We all crave to nourish something that hungers inside.
I know that this “machine” as my 90 year old grandmother calls it, is both a blessing and a curse. Sometimes I feel like a raccoon, busy doing something important one moment and then suddenly I see something shiny out the corner of my eye and I’ve got to go chase after it – before I know it, hours have gone by and….well, here I am. LOL
So while I appreciate the previous comment, it’s way past my bedtime and I SHOULD be asleep, and your blog post hasn’t my eyelids any heavier.
#2 – As hard as it is to ignore the cynics who can’t wait to tell us how we’ll never succeed at whatever, always remember IT’S YOUR DREAM, NOT THEIRS.
